Two school committee seats to be filled after resignations, committee says

The Chebeague Island School Committee reported on Sept. 7 that two members have submitted letters of resignation and that the committee will begin the process to fill the resulting vacancies.
Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick said she received resignation letters from School Committee Chair Leah Guay and member Meredith Beaupre. Kirkpatrick told the committee that, under the established timetable, those seats will be considered vacant after the Sept. 14 election and the committee has 30 days after that election to appoint replacements. Any person appointed to fill a vacancy will serve until the next annual meeting in June 2022.
The committee did not name potential appointees at the meeting and did not hold a vote on replacements on Sept. 7. Committee members agreed to begin the internal process for filling the two open seats and to follow the statutory timeline laid out for post-election appointments.
The committee is scheduled to discuss related procedural details at upcoming meetings; no further timeline for public applications or interviews was announced at the Sept. 7 session.
