Groton council approves stormwater design contract, tactical urbanism demo, furniture donation and interim planner extension

At its June 15 meeting the Groton Mayor and Council unanimously approved four resolutions that collectively direct city contracting and accept a private donation.
Resolution R-26-06-60 authorized the mayor to enter into a contract with The Nature Conservancy to complete design, engineering and permitting for nature-based stormwater solutions in the Five Corners neighborhood at a total contract amount of $320,000. Councilman McCauley moved the measure; the funding breakdown in the motion was $300,000 from a Long Island Fish and Wildlife Foundation award and $20,000 from the City of Groton Public Works FY 2026 budget. The council voted to approve the contract unanimously.
Resolution R-26-06-61 approved a contract with Street Plans for design, project management and installation of a tactical urbanism demonstration in the public right-of-way within the Five Corners neighborhood for $80,000. Funding was allocated as $38,000 from Economic Development (FY25–26), $8,000 from Planning (FY25–26) and $34,000 from Public Works (FY25–26). The Deputy Mayor introduced the resolution and it passed unanimously.
Resolution R-26-06-62 accepted a donation of office furniture from Pfizer (445 Eastern Point Road) for use throughout municipal offices and public spaces. Councilor Piazza moved the acceptance and the council approved the donation unanimously.
Resolution R-26-06-63 authorized the mayor's office to sign a contract to extend technical assistance services from the Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments so that Taylor Louise may serve as interim city planner through Dec. 31, 2026. Councillor Norris moved the extension; the council approved the contract extension unanimously.
Each resolution was moved, seconded and passed without recorded opposition or abstention in the meeting transcript. The meeting then adjourned.
