At its March 25, 2026 meeting the Town of Acton Select Board adopted a Debit/Credit Card Acceptance policy that includes a clarifying line noting card processing fees are not town revenue.
The Town Administrator proposed adding the sentence: "This fee is charged by the credit card companies and is not a revenue of the Town of Acton." Select Board member David Winchell Jr. moved to sign the policy; Ed Walsh seconded the motion and it passed by voice vote.
Town Administrator Jennifer Roux framed the change as an administrative clarification intended to make clear the fees are retained by payment processors and should not be recorded as municipal revenue. The board did not debate alternative fee structures at the meeting.
The policy adoption will allow the town to accept card payments under the updated terms; staff will implement the operational steps and update informational materials accordingly.
