Park Rapids council approves letter clearing archaeological concerns for Heartland Heights site

The Park Rapids City Council on July 8 approved a letter of opinion to the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office that concurs with an archaeological consultant's finding of no archaeological resources on the Heartland Heights parcel, Presenter Mary Thompson said.
The letter, requested to enable environmental clearance for the Heartland Heights development, was described by Mary Thompson as consistent with the consultant's report that no archaeological findings exist on the property. "This will allow them to get their environmental clearance to move forward with our project," she said, paraphrasing the project's need to clear the SHPO review.
Councilmember Joe Christensen moved to approve the letter of opinion; Councilmember Tim Little seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously with four councilmembers voting in favor (Vice Mayor Liz Stone and Councilmembers Tim Little, Joe Christensen, and Jeremy Engholm) and Mayor Pat Mikesh absent.
With the approval, city staff and the Heartland Lakes Development Commission may proceed toward the environmental-clearance steps required by state review. The transcript records no conditions or dissent attached to the council's action.
