Residents press for details as Lebanon forms subcommittee to review county disc-golf plan

Lebanon Township residents raised questions about a Hunterdon County proposal to install disc-golf facilities at Teeter Town Reserve during the Feb. 11 meeting, and the committee formed a subcommittee to gather details and represent the township's interests.

A resident asked whether the county project would cost the township anything and where the disc-golf course would be sited. The resident said they were concerned about proximity to roads and hunting areas, and asked how many people would be expected for tournaments. "I want more detail," the resident said, asking whether the course would be near the road or farther back in the reserve.

Committee members explained their understanding that the county's grant application does not require township approval, but said the township still needs specifics before taking a position. "We should at least have a consensus that we should make a specific inquiry about this and get a lot more detail," one committee member said.

The committee moved to form a subcommittee to examine the Hunterdon County grant and the disc-golf plan; the motion named Jay and Rich (Webb) as subcommittee members. The body urged staff to request the county's full grant proposal, including the proposed site and anticipated attendance, and asked that the subcommittee report back.

Why it matters: While the county may be the applicant and funder, township leaders said site location, public safety and the potential impacts of tournaments on neighborhoods warrant local review and public input.

Next steps: The subcommittee will request the county's grant application, review proposed siting and bring recommendations back to the full committee.
