U.N. humanitarian and OCHA partners reported that shortages of fuel, engine oil and spare parts continue to undermine critical water and sanitation operations across the Gaza Strip, affecting water production, distribution and solid‑waste management, the U.N. spokesperson said.
Despite prioritized fuel allocations and reduced water production and trucking, partners distributed food assistance to nearly 420,000 people in the first two weeks of June—providing two food parcels, high‑energy biscuits and one bag of flour per family that together cover about 75% of minimal daily caloric needs, Steph said.
UNDP is leading pesticide application to address pest infestations, with UNICEF and other partners supporting community mobilization and safety measures. Partners also distributed animal feed to some 2,200 herder households and, since late March, provided conditional cash assistance of $2,500 per farmer to more than 1,000 farmers to support crop reactivation.
The U.N. reiterated that sustained humanitarian access, adequate food supplies and increased funding remain critical to maintain and scale up lifesaving activities.
