The U.N. secretary‑general arrived in Haiti and was welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Alex DJ Fis, the U.N. spokesperson Steph told reporters. He toured Cape Verier, met the gang‑suppression force and received briefings from the U.N. support office on the operational and logistical assistance provided under Security Council resolution 2793.
Steph said the secretary‑general planned to meet Haitians affected by violence, representatives of civil society and U.N. colleagues on the ground, and was scheduled to speak to the press later in the afternoon with a live broadcast on UN Web TV.
The visit underscores the U.N. emphasis on supporting security operations and engaging with local communities. U.N. officials also planned meetings in Santo Domingo with Dominican authorities before the secretary‑general returns to New York.
