School committee sets lunch price at $2.50, reviews opening logistics and parent packets

The Chebeague Island School Committee on Aug. 17 approved operational items ahead of the Aug. 30 school opening, including setting the school lunch price at $2.50 for the 2021–22 year.

Under New Business, the committee first approved reviewing and approving the cost of school lunch; that motion passed unanimously. Committee member Jeff Putnam then moved to set the lunch price at $2.50; the motion passed 5–0. The committee also approved distributing two parent packets this year — one for elementary families and one for middle/high families — and updating contact information for all parents PreK–12.

Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick updated members on preparations for opening: staff will have three days of workshops and preparation the week before school opens (Tuesday through Thursday), and Kirkpatrick said she is coordinating with the Recreation Director and the Kid’s Pace director to better serve children and families. Morning bus schedules were distributed to committee members; the elementary bus run will start at the Stone Pier to assist parents who need to catch the 8:00 a.m. boat.

The committee reviewed the CTC contract (a copy will be included in the School Committee notebook) and reviewed a letter going to middle and high school parents that will be included in the packet along with contact information and the Yarmouth School Calendar. The committee also reviewed the slate of positions that the current budget was designed to support; members noted some positions remain unfilled or may not be needed and said the slate will be revisited during the 2022–2023 budget process.

The meeting record shows the committee reviewed and signed a warrant that included one insurance bill. The committee adjourned at 8:31 p.m.
