South Bloomfield council approves four ordinances on third reading; sick-leave policy gets first reading

The Village of South Bloomfield council voted unanimously on Aug. 4 to adopt four ordinances on their third reading and held a first reading on changes to the village sick-leave policy.

Dena Cobb moved to approve Ordinance 2025-15, which amends Chapter 72 of the codified ordinances; Lisa McDorman seconded the motion and councilmembers Ken Everts, Woody Blanton, Tom Ramsay, Lisa McDorman, Dena Cobb and Amber Murphy voted yes. Council followed the same procedure to approve Ordinance 2025-16 (amending Chapter 76) and Ordinance 2025-17 (creating regulations governing pawn brokers); each motion carried on recorded unanimous votes. Ken Everts then moved, and Dena Cobb seconded, approval of Ordinance 2025-18 (amending Section 51.04(K)); that motion also passed unanimously.

On new business, Woody Blanton moved and Lisa McDorman seconded to approve the first reading of Ordinance 2025-19, which proposes amendments to the Village of South Bloomfield sick-leave policy; that first reading was approved by the same recorded majority. The ordinance will return for further readings before any final adoption.

Council also completed routine procedural actions: approval of the meeting agenda, waiving and approving the July 21, 2025 meeting minutes, and a motion to pay bills at the close of the meeting. The fiscal officer flagged an additional invoice of $10,095.00 from Falcon Fab and Finishes for new welcome sign gates to be included with the bill batch; the payment was covered in the motion to pay bills.

The meeting adjourned at 7:19 p.m. The council will next meet on Sept. 2, 2025.
