Council members and department staff outlined final operational plans for the South Bloomfield Halloween Fest during the Oct. 20 meeting.
Sgt. Francis reviewed the parking and staffing plan: volunteers will use the police-department lot for parking, and because some South Bloomfield officers will participate in a dunk tank the village has requested 2 to 3 officers from Ashville to assist with staffing. "Harrison Fire will have an ambulance on-site in the event that there is a medical emergency," Sgt. Francis said. He also reported the department is down one officer after a recent resignation.
Council Member Amber Murphy described event programming and logistics: the final movie night is scheduled for Oct. 24, Business of Bounce is confirmed, pumpkins have been delivered to the shelter house, several food trucks and prizes have been confirmed, and volunteers are asked to help set up Friday. "Total cost for the event is approximately $4000," Murphy said. Fiscal Officer Alisha Burke told the council she needs DJ contact information in order to issue payment.
During discussion Murphy asked whether volunteers who arrive on motorcycles may park on the blacktop; Mayor Aaron Thomas said volunteer motorcycles may be parked in the volunteer parking area on the blacktop, and the council took no further motion to change parking rules.
What happens next: the police and contracted support will staff the event; the fiscal office will issue payment to vendors once contact information is provided; organizers will complete set-up and logistics in the days before the festival.
