South Bloomfield council adopts 2026 budget, approves records and zoning changes and other measures

The Village of South Bloomfield council unanimously adopted its 2026 budget during a third reading at the June 16 meeting, Mayor Aaron Thomas said. The motion to approve Ordinance 2025‑10 passed on a 5‑0 vote after a motion by Tom Ramsay and a second by Woody Blanton.
Council also approved the first reading of Ordinance 2025‑13 to amend the village public records policy and the first reading of Ordinance 2025‑14 to amend the zoning code. Lisa McDorman moved the first reading of the public records amendment; Woody Blanton seconded and the vote was 5‑0. Tom Ramsay moved the first reading of the zoning amendment; Woody Blanton seconded and the motion passed with a 4‑0‑1 tally (Amber Murphy abstained).
Village Administrator Joe Allen asked council to change the front yard fence maximum from 42 to 48 inches, noting 42 inches is not a standard material height. The measure passed on a 3‑1‑1 vote (Woody Blanton: yes; Tom Ramsay: yes; Lisa McDorman: yes; Dena Cobb: no; Amber Murphy: abstained).
During public comment Helena Tigner requested a sewer‑bill deduction after an exterior water leak at a vacant Canal Street property used about 26,000 gallons of water. Administrator Joe Allen said the village’s established practice is to grant a sewer deduction for an external leak and recommended removing sewer fees and late charges provided the remaining balance is paid by June 30; no council members objected.
Council approved payment of bills and adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
