The Kenosha Public Works Committee voted Jan. 27 to approve street and park use permits for the Wisconsin Marathon and two additional event closures.
Jonathan Cain, representing T Race Productions LLC and the Wisconsin Marathon, told the committee the organizers revised the course to shift portions onto park paths and move the start/finish to Italiana Circle and Fisherman's Drive to reduce street impacts and improve traffic flow. "We are making some adjustments this year to the course...to help alleviate a couple things with traffic flows and residents," Cain said.
Staff read separate requests from the Kenosha Police Department to use the Public Safety Monument and to close 2nd Avenue from 54th to 56th Street on May 14, and from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish for a July 13 procession. Tom Rizzo, who identified himself as chairman of the festival, raised a procedural question about district information during public comment.
A committee member moved to approve items 1, 2 and 3 after public comments were read; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The clerk announced the vote as 'aye' and the chair recorded an affirmative vote.
The approvals authorize the applicants to proceed with event planning subject to any standard permit conditions and staff follow-up on operational details.
