The Kenosha Board of Parks Commission on Feb. 10 approved a grant-funded renovation of Lincoln Park basketball courts, noting cost adjustments to keep the project within a $200,000 grant allocation.
A staff representative told commissioners the project (Project 20-4026) received a $200,000 grant but the work initially came in over budget. To meet the grant limits, staff removed court lighting from the current scope; they said lighting might be added later in the year if funds become available. The board was told the installed courts would be ADA-accessible, configured as a half-court with fencing and adjustable hoops to accommodate wheelchair basketball.
Commissioner questions focused on accessibility features. A commissioner asked, "Katie, you mentioned that it was an ADA court. What constitutes an ADA—America's Disabilities Act—what constitutes an ADA court?" A staff member explained the court will have access, fencing, half-court size and adjustable hoops for wheelchair use. Commissioners approved the project scope and award to the Wannoussac Corporation by voice vote.
Staff said installation is expected by mid-summer and that they may pursue lighting later as funds allow. The board directed staff to proceed with contracted work under the grant terms and to report back on any scope changes.
