The Kenosha City Planning Commission voted to approve a resolution to vacate part of an alley west of 21st Avenue between 28th and 29th Street, following staff recommendations and resident request. Britney Free (S11), representing the 6th District, said the petition came from neighborhood residents and that she had spoken with city development and public works and had no concerns.
Staff explained the partial alley vacation would preserve a garage access point and estimated the dead-alley portion at roughly 150 feet, longer than the typical 100-foot standard. Staff said the common council will ultimately need to approve the vacation and that they had included correspondence from the director of public works preferring a longer vacation to ease snow-plowing operations.
A commissioner urged approval, noting the city has a long history of vacating alleys where appropriate. The commission approved the resolution by roll call; staff will forward the item for required agency recording and final common council action.
