Mayor updates council on Veterans Memorial Park, street program, natatorium procurement and dog park progress

In his report to council, the mayor provided a multi-project update on city capital work and summer events.
The mayor said work at Veterans Memorial Park is advancing and that demolition of the pool house is nearly complete; rebuilding will follow. The 2025 street-rehabilitation program is moving forward and, weather permitting, is expected to finish in the coming weeks. The mayor said the city’s first traffic-calming measures (speed tables) will be installed on Idlewood as one of the program’s final steps.
The mayor also told council the westbound I-480 ramp onto Ridge Road is closed for construction with an anticipated closure from June 2 through Aug 5. The Memphis and Tedman project is expected to be completed by the middle of next month. For the natatorium project, a statement of qualifications was advertised and the city is accepting construction-manager-at-risk (CMR) applications through July 7; the city will select a CMR and proceed to the next procurement stage.
Other capital updates included the salt-dome pad and walls under construction (expected to finish by the end of July), and the dog park work that is scheduled closer to the end of summer. The mayor said additional parking for the dog park will be provided and overflow parking is expected to be accommodated on a service-garage lot outside business hours.
The mayor also announced three community gatherings for residents this summer: June 26 (Veterans Memorial Park, botchi ball courts), July 17 (Brock Memorial Park), and Aug 28 (Marquort Park), all starting at 6:30 p.m.
