Brooklyn holds CDBG public hearing on $150,000 plan to improve senior-center parking and ADA access

Brooklyn City Council held a public hearing on a proposed $150,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to fund accessibility and parking improvements at the city senior center.
City staff member Mr. Henry told the council the block grant is awarded based on community need and the city's application would prioritize public-facility improvements for wheelchair and handicap ADA accessibility. "Based on improvements to the building and to the sidewalk and the additional parking, I would expect that the whole 150 would be used at that facility," Mr. Henry said.
Council members asked how the funds would be allocated. One council member asked whether the entire $150,000 would be spent at the senior center or split with other projects; Mr. Henry reiterated the expectation that the money would be used at that facility. When asked how many parking spaces would be added, Mr. Henry answered, "approximately about 12" and confirmed the project would include a ramp to make the entrance ADA compliant.
Council opened the floor for public comment and invited residents to sign a sheet that will accompany the application to document community input. No alternative projects were proposed during the hearing; council said they would record ideas raised, include the sign‑in list with the application, and proceed with the application process.
The hearing concluded and council resumed its regular business. The application and any final project list will be determined before the city submits its CDBG request.
