Board waives first reading and adopts two policy updates to meet state law

Vice President Les said policy 5410 (promotion, placement and retention) required immediate revision to remove attendance as a consideration for retention after changes in state law (House Bill 96). The board voted to waive the first reading and adopt the edits by roll call to ensure legal compliance.
The board also adopted changes to policy 5112 (entrance requirements) to align with House Bill 114 and Ohio Revised Code 3321.01, which alters kindergarten entrance date language; the board waived the first reading and approved the amendment because the law takes effect March 20.
Both motions passed by roll call with board members recorded as voting yes. Board leaders said the policy changes are intended to keep district policies consistent with state statutes and that further committee review will continue for additional policy work.
