The BRAZOSPORT ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday adopted a balanced budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year with combined revenues of approximately $173.4 million and a preliminary tax rate of 0.8890 per $100 of taxable value.
Miss Kino, the district’s chief financial officer, said the proposed tax rate is composed of a maintenance and operations (M) rate of 0.637 and an interest-and-sinking (I&S) rate of 0.2153, and stressed the board would revisit the final rate once certified property values are received and the Texas Education Agency announces maximum compressed rates. "The final tax rate cannot be adopted until certified property values are received and the TEA announces the final maximum compressed rates," Kino said.
The board approved the budget after a public hearing in which administrators described the assumptions behind revenue and expenditure projections. District staff reported estimated property-value growth, a conservative 1% reduction in assumed tax collection rate, and projected revenue shifts that include roughly $2.8 million in additional local property-tax collections and an expected $2.1 million decrease in state funding because of Texas' equalization adjustments.
The budget maintains the district’s funding priorities, including employee compensation and student programs, while relying on staffing adjustments and campus reconfigurations to realize approximately $4 million in savings. Kino presented a projected general-fund ending balance of about $44.4 million and a combined fund balance across all operating funds of approximately $57.9 million.
Board members asked staff to return with certified property values and a final tax-rate recommendation at a later meeting. The board approved the budget as presented; the tax rate itself will be considered once the district receives certified values and TEA guidance.
