Staff explained that the clerk position is part-time and split with transfer-station duties, which constrains additional clerk hours without creating overtime or shifting staffing in summer.
After discussion about perception, staffing, and potential confusion over advertised hours versus available clerk services, the board agreed to a compromise: post the town office as open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. while maintaining formal clerk-service hours at 7:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Monday–Thursday. Board members asked staff to advertise the schedule clearly and to offer appointments after clerk hours when necessary. The board will reassess the arrangement in April and treat summer scheduling as a separate planning topic.
"If we advertise it as open to the public until 3:00, we should make clear clerk hours remain the same and offer appointment options after 2:00," a member said. The motion carried by majority voice vote.
