Select Board approves clinic job descriptions after debate over medical-services board role

The North Haven Select Board voted April 1 to approve two job descriptions for the town clinic — a clinic director and a clinic administrator — after an extended discussion about governance and the medical services board’s role.
Multiple members said they were comfortable approving the job descriptions but worried the medical services board had not been given sufficient opportunity to review proposed changes to its advisory charge. One select board member said they would abstain from a vote until the medical services board could discuss the governance clarifications; other members argued the select board retains final authority over job descriptions and hiring.
Board members agreed to invite the medical services board to a future select-board meeting to clarify whether that board’s role is strictly advisory or includes medical-direction responsibilities. Staff said the select board retains hiring authority and would incorporate medical services board input as appropriate. The two job-description motions were moved, seconded and carried with supporting votes recorded in the meeting.
The board asked staff to return any substantive changes and to document the governance relationship clearly before major operational changes were implemented.
