Park County commissioners sign onto new Purdue-Sackler opioid settlement

Park County commissioners approved signing forms to opt the county into a national opioid settlement involving Purdue and members of the Sackler family, county staff said at their Aug. 5 meeting.
County staff explained that Park County has participated in past opioid settlements awarded to state and local governments and that the new agreement will allow the county to receive additional settlement funds. The county attorney and staff will complete the paperwork so that the forms are returned to the Montana Department of Justice for processing.
During public comment, Sabina Strauss of Gardner asked for details on the amounts Park County might receive. County staff responded, "There are no set amount right now," and explained that counties typically opt in to state-negotiated settlements and that distribution details can follow later.
A commissioner made a motion "that we sign the opioid settlement forms," which was seconded and approved by the board.
County staff said a designated official will sign and forward the paperwork to the state for enrollment in the settlement; the amount and timing of any disbursements were not specified at the meeting.
