Board honors student state champions and thanks alumni association for grants and support
Summary
Oconee County Board recognized multiple state-champion and runner-up student-athletes and teams, and heard a public comment from Vicky Hammond of the Oconee County Schools Alumni Association thanking staff and detailing alumni grants to school arts programs.
The meeting opened with recognitions of multiple state athletic accomplishments from Oconee County students: the board read team rosters and coaches for the Class 3A boys track and field state champions and other individual state medalists across track, soccer and tennis.
Shelby Hilly, principal of the primary school, and Jennifer Dalton, assistant principal, then presented a “One Campus” update describing cross-campus family engagement events, joint professional learning and student programs such as Book Buddies and the Fun Run. The pair introduced Kimberly Griffith as the new principal at the elementary campus.
During the public comment period, Vicky Hammond, secretary of the Oconee County Schools Alumni Association, thanked district staff and leaders for partnering with the alumni association on recognition events and said the association has provided nearly $25,000 to students over the past decade and awards $1,000 grants to arts departments via proceeds from alumni events.
The board thanked the alumni association for its contributions.
