Jess Daniel, senior planner, presented the property as an approximately 98-year-old bungalow noted in the Paleo West architectural inventory as one of the city’s best examples of the bungalow form, with original footprint and high integrity. Staff recommended approval of Resolution No. 6, Series 2026, to designate the property and award the incentive grant.
Public commenter Shelley Angel (Louisville) spoke in favor of naming the structure the Caransy House and confirmed family permission for the landmarking process. Commissioners praised the house’s condition, its magnolia tree and its cultural significance to Louisville’s Italian-heritage history and voted to recommend the designation and grant.
The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to city council for final action; staff noted the incentive grant would be paid to the property owner and that the new owner will complete the approved Historic Structure Assessment before applying for additional grants or alteration certificates.
