Veterans Services Officer to retire; Marquette County board hears outreach plans and case counts

Kris Bergh, the county Veterans Services Officer (CVSO), told the Marquette County Human Services Board on April 4 that his office has closed 17 cases since the last meeting and currently has 13 cases pending before the Board of Appeals. He reported four veteran deaths since the last report and listed outreach and training dates, including Youth in Government Day on April 15.
Bergh said veterans from the county plan to meet with legislators at the State Capitol to press for expansion of veterans’ and survivors’ property tax credits. He described the statutory basis for CVSO services in Wisconsin, noting the office’s origins date back to 1932 and that Chapter 45 of Wisconsin law requires counties to provide CVSO services. Bergh noted he was appointed in 2016, that the office currently has one full-time assistant, and that he intends to retire in December 2025.
Board members acknowledged Bergh’s report and the office’s outreach plans to lawmakers. No formal action was taken; the report was informational.
