Cushing selectmen approve warrants and minutes; discuss veterans memorial and town turnaround with Farnsworth museum

The Town of Cushing selectmen met Oct. 12, 2015 at the Cushing Community Center. The board voted to accept Warrants #40 and #41 and approved the minutes of the Sept. 28 meeting; the minutes show Selectman Daniel Staples abstained on the minutes approval.
Selectman Laurie Haynes proposed covering an etching on the veterans memorial with a bronze plaque; Selectman Daniel Staples said the decision was already final and should not be changed. The minutes do not record further action on the memorial.
Chair Alton Grover reported a problem at the Olson House: Farnsworth museum representatives initially objected to town vehicles turning around at that location. The museum offered an alternative turnaround site on its property but requested the town pay to gravel that spot. The Farnsworth moved sawhorses temporarily so the school bus could turn around while the parties work toward a resolution. Selectman Staples said town vehicles have been turning at that site since the 1950s and noted the town would not pay to construct a turnaround on private property; he said he would follow up with the museum.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn carried 4-0 at 6:37 P.M.
