The Norfolk School Committee used part of its June 10 meeting to recognize and honor more than a dozen retiring staff members for their combined decades of service to the district.
Committee members read tributes to each retiree, highlighting years of service and contributions: a longtime special-education teacher who launched virtual learning during the pandemic; speech and language staff who supported preschoolers; library staff who built literacy programs and author visits; classroom teachers who led gardens and peer-leadership programs; and administrators who guided inclusion and IEP modernization. Applause followed each tribute.
Separately, under the chair’s report the committee reviewed two gifts on the agenda: $4,330 from the Northfor PTO for a BrainPOP renewal and kindergarten classroom materials, and $243.50 from Vision Inc., proceeds from spring photos, for the Freeman Kennedy (FK) activity account. The committee moved to approve the combined total of $4,573.50 and voted in favor.
The retiree recognitions and the accepted gifts conclude the district’s formal business for the current school year; the committee thanked retirees and invited them to remain connected with the schools.
