Committees approve superintendent's evaluation and 3.5% salary increase after closed-session negotiations

The combined Northborough, Southborough and Regional School Committees approved Superintendent Greg Martino's 2025–26 summative evaluation and later voted to raise his salary for 2026–27 following executive-session contract negotiations.
Committee leads Jen Perneck and Lauren Bailey presented the evaluation, reporting that Mr. Martino received multiple "exemplary" and "proficient" ratings across performance standards including instructional leadership, management and operations, family and community engagement, and professional culture. Perneck summarized the committee's view that, under Martino's leadership, the district advanced curriculum coherence and maintained operations during a difficult budget year.
"Under his leadership, the district has continued to prioritize engaging learning experiences that support critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and real-world application of knowledge," Perneck said during the public presentation.
After an executive-session negotiation on the superintendent's contract, committees reconvened in open session and moved to increase Martino's salary by a 3.5% cost-of-living adjustment. The motion described the superintendent's prior salary as $239,095 and proposed a new annual salary for 2026–27; the motion passed by roll-call votes in Northborough, Southborough and the Region.
Committee members repeatedly praised Martino's visibility and engagement across the three districts. "His visibility, accessibility, and willingness to engage directly with the community" was noted as a strength in the evaluation report.
The committees also recorded routine governance votes that followed the evaluation (minutes approval, personnel items) and then adjourned. The boards noted the next combined meeting will be on Sept. 16.
