School committee approves three out‑of‑state team trips, including Track Nationals

The Lewiston School Committee on June 15 approved three out‑of‑state travel requests for student athletic teams, voting unanimously on each motion.
Superintendent Jake Langler introduced a request to send two nationally ranked students to the New Balance Outdoor Track Nationals at the University of Pennsylvania June 18–21. Coach Carolyn Court will chaperone the trip, which includes two overnight stays to accommodate competition schedules. "Without Carolyn doing this, these two young men probably will not attend this event," a speaker said during the presentation. A motion to approve the trip was moved and seconded and carried 7–0.
The committee then approved a boys‑basketball trip to the Wally Siver Invitational in Foxboro, Mass., scheduled for July 25–26, and a varsity team camp at East Straburg University June 25–27. Both requests included transportation and supervision plans and were approved by roll call votes of 7–0. Members noted that most participants on the Foxboro trip are incoming freshmen and that the East Straburg plan uses on‑campus housing with two coaches attending.
The committee also recognized the varsity softball team’s advancement to the regional championship and encouraged community attendance at the game.
The approvals were procedural votes on school travel authorizations; no amendments or additional conditions were added by the committee.
