Engineer seeks $75,000 change order to finish Florence Street drainage and curb work

Gaitney Ford, the village engineer, gave trustees a brief history of the Florence Street drainage project and asked the board to approve a change order of approximately $75,000 to complete curb and sidewalk restoration. Ford said the project replaced about 620 linear feet of drain pipe, four catch basins and four storm-sewer manholes, with the major work finished in November 2024 except for final pavement and pavement markings.
Ford described the problem revealed by CCTV work: an older pipe alignment and localized bedrock required additional excavation and diminished pitch. "The total cost of that change order is approximately 75,000," Ford said, noting the proposal would add roughly 305 linear feet of new concrete curb and about 1,250 square feet of sidewalk to mitigate flooding and provide proper drainage.
Ford told the board roughly $50,000'$55,000 remained from the contract contingency and that an additional $20,000'$25,000 could be covered from a committed stormwater fund balance. Trustees asked about trees, paving limits (repaving will extend about 1 foot beyond the trench) and asked staff to circulate photos; staff confirmed the item will appear on the Apr. 28 meeting for approval.
What's next: Trustees will review the backup materials and photos before the consent or regular meeting; no vote on the change order was taken at the work session.
