Waite Hill Council adopts ordinances, resolutions and approves $64,415.35 backhoe purchase

At its Jan. 9, 2012 meeting, the Waite Hill Council adopted Ordinance No. 2012-1 confirming the appointment of Richard J. Perez as assistant law director and setting compensation, and adopted Ordinance No. 2012-2 authorizing the mayor to enter into a legal-services agreement with Ice Miller LLP effective Jan. 1, 2012 through the January 2013 organizational meeting. For both ordinances the council suspended the three-reading rule and adopted the ordinances on the same day by roll-call votes.

The council also adopted Resolution No. 2012-1 honoring Arthur D. Baldwin II for 50 years of service, Resolution No. 2012-2 authorizing payment of certain sums, and Resolution No. 2012-3 requesting the county auditor to advance taxes in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code. On procurement, the council authorized purchase of a CASE 580 super N TIER III Wide Track Loader/Backhoe at a price not to exceed $64,415.35 and approved a $12,000 trade-in allowance for the Village’s existing loader/backhoe. The Service Committee reported the village will obtain a new backhoe; the motion to approve the purchase was moved by Richard Steudel and seconded by Karl Scheucher; roll call recorded Yeas from Cox, Dery, Scheucher, Steudel and Taplin.

During general business, resident Tony Ocepek raised a concern about a solicitation he had received for contributions to the Village Employee Appreciation fund, said he had an adverse altercation with the police chief related to the matter, and said the Ohio Ethics Commission had opined that accounting for the fund should be public record. Mayor Ranallo said he would look into the matter. The council then moved into executive session to discuss appointment and compensation of public officials and pending or imminent litigation, reconvened at 10:50 a.m., and adjourned.
