Village hears early outreach on proposed 765 kV transmission line; developer has no route yet, administrator says

Village officials told council on May 27 they have begun preliminary talks with developers behind a proposed 765 kilovolt transmission line that could cross the northern third of Darke County.
Village Administrator Francis said representatives from Grid Growth Ventures — a joint venture tied to Transource Energy and FirstEnergy Transmission — and an AEP representative met with him and Mayor Dammeyer via Teams on May 26. Francis told the council the developer said it has not established a route yet, could not identify the Indiana termination point, and does not plan to interconnect the new 765 kV line with the Dayton/AES Ohio transmission system in this area. Francis said the developer indicated property owners in potential crossing areas will be notified soon and public open houses are planned as route work proceeds.
Francis said the meeting was an early stakeholder outreach and that the developer previously met with the Darke County Engineer and county commissioners. He noted that the proposed 765 kV project is separate from an ongoing AMP Transmission 69 kV project that is already under way to improve capacity and redundancy around Versailles.
Why it matters: A 765 kV transmission line is a large regional electricity corridor that typically requires new right-of-way and can affect property, visual landscape and local planning. At this stage the developer reported no final route; that means landowners in the north third of Darke County should expect future notifications and public meetings but no immediate construction activity.
