Board approves mental-health, speech and dental partner agreements for students

East Cleveland board approved a partnership with KC Center for Health and Wellness for no-cost student mental-health services, a contract with Dynamically Speaking LLC for speech-language support, and an MOU with School Smiles Group for on-site dental services with parent consent.
At its Feb. 9 meeting the East Cleveland School Board approved three student-services agreements intended to expand in-school supports.
The board approved a partnership with KC Center for Health and Wellness to provide student mental-health services at no cost to the district or families; board members said services would be on-site and contingent on parent consent and noted the district also works with other providers.
The board also approved contracting with Dynamically Speaking LLC to supply speech-language pathologists (SLPs) to help meet rising caseloads. Members clarified Dynamically Speaking is an independent company engaged to provide SLP services as needed.
Finally, the board authorized a memorandum of understanding with School Smiles Group Inc. to provide voluntary on-site dental services, such as cleanings and sealants, again with parent consent and at no cost to district families. Board members asked whether the provider would refer students for more extensive work and were told the program writes referrals for follow-up care.
