Jamie McMillian, vice president of advocacy for the Akron Cleveland Association of Realtors, summarized the association’s priorities and local programs at the Westshore Council of Governments meeting March 11 in Fairview Park.
McMillian said ACAR represents roughly 6,000 members across Cuyahoga, Summit and Portage counties and provides professional development and standards, with a growing emphasis on community outreach and public‑policy engagement. She described place‑making grants the association awards—up to $7,500 per county—for projects such as pocket parks and all‑abilities playgrounds, and noted ACAR runs continuing‑education programs (“Realtor Days”) on housing trends and economic development.
The presentation covered ACAR’s public‑policy positions. McMillian said the group evaluates local rules through the perspective of homeowners and property owners and favors systematic exterior‑only property inspections over point‑of‑sale inspections. She also described ACAR’s counsel on rental regulations and infrastructure concerns such as flooding and roads.
Pamela Bobst, Rocky River’s mayor, stressed the importance of disclosure and direct communication between realtors and cities or title companies about inspection and maintenance programs. McMillian also said ACAR’s Realtors Political Action Committee conducts candidate interviews focused on real estate issues, and that the association is expanding advocacy to support the commercial sector.
ACAR plans to host a Mayors and Managers meeting later this month, McMillian said. The presentation was informational; no formal action was taken by the council at the meeting.
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for April 8, 2026.
