Director Kerry Kemp delivered the Director's Report, outlining several administrative and operational items. Kemp said ongoing staff and safety training is part of an effort to strengthen the department's safety culture and highlighted an April 19 training that will include Code Violet (violent incident response), Code Adam (missing person) and an active-shooter exercise coordinated with the Police Department.
Kemp also introduced a new Recreation Department logo that will roll out on signage, marketing and staff apparel, and announced an updated employee handbook containing revised policies, expectations and a code of conduct.
On operations, Kemp reported the department's recreation software was affected by a nationwide cyberattack, causing a temporary outage that required manual operations; Kemp said staff reported no sensitive data was compromised and that the department is exploring alternative software vendors for future implementation. No timetable for a vendor change was provided at the meeting.
