Hubbardston Select Board honors late chair Jeff Williams and reorganizes leadership

Select Board members in the Town of Hubbardston opened the meeting with tributes to former Chair Jeff Williams, who died recently, and paused for reflection before resuming regular business. Representative Berthum and Senator Durant were recognized for attending and for acknowledging Williams’s service to the town and to Gardner High School students. Family members Jennifer and Gordon were invited to listen as colleagues described Williams as a measured, compassionate public servant.
After a brief recess the board administered the oath of office to Terrence "Terry" Tyler, the newly elected select board member. Town Clerk Melody Green led the oath and Tyler thanked the board, said he was glad to give back and noted his long residency and ties to local schools and sports.
The board then completed its reorganization. A motion to elect Katie as chair was seconded and carried by unanimous voice vote; Katie said she would work to do her best for town residents. Peter Walker was nominated and confirmed as vice chair and Terry Tyler was confirmed as the board clerk. Members discussed committee liaison assignments and decided to circulate a committee list and allow a week or two for the new member to get up to speed before finalizing appointments.
The board also used the open-session portion of the meeting to announce community events, including a historical society pie sale at Williamsville Chapel scheduled for Saturday, June 20 (10 a.m.–1 p.m.) and the townwide yard sale on June 27–28, with instructions to register via the parks department email by June 24.
The reorganization followed custom practice for municipal boards; members noted that the chair’s role is to help the board find a collective voice and to protect orderly deliberation.
