Prairie Grove honors Washington County Master Gardeners with Hometown Heroes award

Prairie Grove on Sept. 16 presented a Hometown Heroes award to the Washington County Master Gardeners in recognition of decades of volunteer work maintaining downtown planters, Battlefield Park and the park spring.
The mayor read the citation praising the group’s "selfless" dedication and long-term service to the community. Miss Linda, speaking for the group, said the Master Gardeners have worked in the park since the 1980s and thanked city staff and volunteers by name, including Millie Bowman, early volunteers, and current co-chairs. She singled out city help with irrigation and debris removal and noted the group's outreach to the public and municipal workers as a way of maintaining community support.
"We are both surprised and delighted by this honor and we thank you all very much," Miss Linda said, thanking the mayor and council for the recognition and for operational support.
Council members applauded the group's long-running efforts to beautify public spaces; the award includes framed copies for participants. The ceremony preceded the meeting’s public-comment period and routine business.
