Denmark — Recreation director Hillary Loco told the Select Board she will step down in the near future and provided a packet of contacts, program descriptions and operational notes to aid a successor.
"Hi, Hillary Loco — rec director for now," she said, opening her update. Hillary outlined the town’s youth programming (soccer, baseball, basketball), typical team sizes and age groupings, and how Denmark partners with Brownfield and other neighboring towns to field teams when local rosters are small.
Hillary described operations and time commitments, saying coordination and field maintenance require several hours per week and substantial volunteer support. She said the program offers scholarships "no questions asked" to ensure access for families who cannot pay for uniforms.
Board members and staff acknowledged Hillary’s contributions and said recruiting a replacement will be challenging because the role is year-round and time-intensive. Luke (a committee member) suggested assembling a small group of coaches and experienced volunteers to serve as a temporary rec committee to help a new director with field prep, equipment and seasonal start-up tasks. The board agreed to advertise the position, reach out to neighboring towns, and consider a volunteer-support committee to smooth the transition.
