At its May 4 meeting the Ashland Cultural Council agreed to coordinate a downtown traffic-box public-art project and to work with the Town Manager’s office to solicit artists. Beth Reynolds, Assistant Town Manager, raised concerns about newly installed black utility boxes downtown and asked the council to provide a list of town-owned boxes for the town’s inventory.
Stacey Grant-Lewis, the council chair, said she will publish information for town artists in the Town Manager’s Newsletter and indicated the council will discuss selecting a student image for the next box at the May 20 meeting. Tara (committee member) will apply the ACC logo to traffic boxes as part of the project’s rollout.
Action items the council recorded: the council will send a list of existing town boxes to Reynolds and notify her of new boxes planned; Grant-Lewis will publicize the artist call; and the board will consider a student-submitted image at the May 20 meeting. The minutes do not list a funding amount or contractual terms for production or installation.
