Salem Township supervisors approve monthly expenditures, hire staff and authorize infrastructure work

The Salem Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved routine minutes and a slate of administrative measures at its Feb. 18 meeting in Greensburg, including monthly expenditures totaling $200,349.60 and several personnel and planning actions.
The board voted to approve the township’s monthly disbursements across funds (General Fund $124,177.62; Payroll $50,892.53; Sewage $825.00; Liquid Fuels $21,681.74; Street Lights $499.54; Machinery $2,273.17). Supervisors Kerry Jobe, Bob Zundel and Todd Paulich voted for the motion.
The supervisors also approved hiring Blaise Defrances as a full‑time road crew employee and ratified the volunteer fireman tax credit rosters for Slickville and Forbes Road volunteer fire departments. The board authorized advertising for a Building Code Official to fill the vacancy left by Dave Jobe’s resignation and approved a revised memorandum of understanding with the Westmoreland Conservation District.
On equipment and procurement items, the board authorized advertising to seek a used tractor and boom mower (the board had discussed budget limits that made purchasing new equipment infeasible this year) and approved a letter of intent to purchase a 2000 Ford pickup for $17,000 from the Borough of Homestead, intended for the township’s Emergency Management and Code Enforcement Officer.
Planning‑related votes included conditional approval of the Crum‑Prascus lot line revision plan (subject to drafting and labeling corrections) and final approval of a Penn Home and Farm LLC lot‑addition plan after required plan revisions were completed. The supervisors also approved a series of subdivision‑ordinance modification requests for an application by Jeffrey L. Demary.
All motions in this package passed unanimously with Supervisors Kerry Jobe, Bob Zundel and Todd Paulich voting in favor. The board set special meetings for Feb. 24 and March 5 and scheduled the next regular meeting for March 18.
