Supervisors confirm grant awards and engineering steps for Tucker and Kennan waterline projects

Salem Township supervisors on Jan. 21 renewed a consultant retainer and advanced planning steps for multiple waterline projects after confirming available grant funds.
The board voted unanimously to renew Regola Consulting LLC’s monthly retainer at $2,500. Kerry Jobe told the board the township had been notified of a roughly $340,000 award for an Apple/Tower Lanes waterline extension and that Kennan Drive and Tucker Road had been the subject of prior grant applications. The township also acknowledged a 2024 LSA grant award of $350,000 for the Tucker Road waterline extension and authorized the project's scope to match that award.
Supervisors approved a $12,000 proposal from Morris Knowles & Associates for engineering fees for the Kennan Drive waterline extension. Todd Paulich said the township plans to run a waterline from Kennan to Orrs using township crews and equipment, and estimated the work would take about 3–4 months once begun; he noted that not all sections are under state jurisdiction so some work can be completed by township forces. Residents from Kennan Drive, including Greg Bosich and Char Neiport, pressed the board on rising costs — citing a 2015 estimate of about $188,000 that residents say has increased to more than $500,000 — and asked whether mandatory hookups would apply; supervisors said the state ultimately determines funding allocations.
The motions to renew the retainer, acknowledge the LSA award and approve engineering fees all passed unanimously. Board members said they will continue to pursue grants and prepare projects to be grant-ready.
