Centerton council adopts inclement-weather pay policy and small public-works raises

The Centerton City Council adopted an updated inclement-weather policy that compensates public-works staff and certain on-duty safety personnel when city offices close for weather-related reasons.
The policy approved on Feb. 10 includes double-time pay for public-works employees called in during inclement weather and an eight-hour stipend for on-duty police and fire personnel during closures (the stipend applies to those on duty, not to off-duty personnel). City staff said most office staff are salaried and paid when offices close; the proposal is intended to compensate hourly or overtime-eligible employees who respond during closures.
Council also approved a small reallocation of $5,200 from existing budgeted funds to increase the public-works director’s base salary by $3,000 (from $102,533 to $105,533) and the assistant director’s base by $2,200 (from $85,280 to $87,480). Mayor said the adjustment is intended to help retention and morale and would not increase the overall budget because funds were already budgeted.
The policies and adjustments were adopted by motion and roll-call vote; council asked staff to monitor budget impacts and include broader compensation issues in the municipal-league salary study work already planned.
