Centerton council approves procurement threshold, commission pay and clerk raise; tables mayor pay and utility rate changes

Centerton’s City Council on Dec. 9 adopted several ordinances and took action to delay two others.
Ordinance 2025-61 raised the municipal purchase-order threshold from $500 to $1,000 to reduce routine paperwork for purchases. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of members present.
The council also adopted Ordinance 2025-62, increasing meeting compensation for the Waterworks and Sewer Commission from $200 to $250 per meeting; the ordinance specifies the funds come from the commission’s separate account. Councilmembers recorded affirmative roll-call votes.
Ordinance 2025-63 implemented a 4% salary increase for the city clerk, in line with the 2026 budget, effective Jan. 1. Members praised the clerk’s work during the audit presentation earlier in the meeting.
Council debated Ordinance 2025-64 (a proposed 4% mayor salary increase to go into the adopted budget) but, with one member absent, voted to table the item until a later meeting so all members can participate.
On utility rates, staff presented recommended sewer and water rate changes tied to a recent rate study (staff noted a 50¢ base-rate addition for sewer and a 35–45¢ per 1,000‑gallon change for water as options). After legal counsel advised more time to review revised ordinance wording and members requested additional analysis, the council moved and voted to table Ordinances 2025-67 (sewer) and 2025-68 (water) for further review and possible special meeting consideration.
