Centerton A&P Commission approves budgets, reappoints Katherine Smith and accepts Donna Rice resignation

During opening reports, staff said the commission’s A&P balance is roughly $225,000 and the Parks & Recreation fund about $25,200. Staff reported Centerton Day generated preliminary revenues of about $2,800 and that run receipts from a newly added 5K were not yet submitted; staff said seed money was returned to reserves and the final Centerton Day accounting will appear at the next meeting.
Josh, representing Parks & Recreation staff, briefed the commission on the parks budget, noting only modest changes from the prior year (about a $2,000 net increase) and a new capital line to replace mowers; one mower was estimated at about $20,000. Commissioner Keith Higgenbotham moved to approve the Parks budget; Amber Guston seconded. The motion passed by voice vote with no opposition.
Staff proposed an A&P budget of about $75,500 that preserves prior-year line items and adds $5,000 for advertising. The proposal includes recurring items such as Centerton Day seed money, banners and a $7,500 fireworks match with First Baptist Church. A commissioner moved to approve the A&P budget; Sky Petty seconded and the motion passed by voice vote with no opposition.
The commission considered two membership items. Katherine Smith’s term (expiring Oct. 13) was extended for a four-year term through Oct. 13, 2028, by unanimous voice vote. The commission also accepted a written resignation from Donna Rice, who sold her business and will step down; commissioners asked staff to identify prospective replacements among local businesses that contribute A&P collections.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn passed. Commissioners thanked Rice for her service and noted this was the first meeting in some time with full attendance.
