Cherokee Village council adopts three updated ordinances on business permits, junk vehicles and trash

Cherokee Village — The city council on June 26 adopted three consolidated ordinances intended to modernize city regulations for doing business, regulating junk vehicles and clarifying garbage and litter rules.
City staff and the planning and zoning commission consolidated a set of older ordinances into three updated ordinances — 2025-01 (business-permit/occupational fee modernization), 2025-02 (regulation of wrecked/unregistered/junk vehicles) and 2025-03 (garbage, abandoned property and litter enforcement). Council read the measures by title and voted to adopt each in turn.
Council members said the rewrite updates wording, fills enforcement gaps and adds clearer penalties to improve enforceability through court processes. Each adoption passed on a roll-call vote of members present (the counts announced in each vote were recorded as all five members present voting yes).
The mayor noted two of the previous ordinances dated back about 10 years and one to 2021; the planning and zoning commission reviewed and recommended consolidating and modernizing the language to aid enforcement.
Next steps: staff will publish the adopted ordinances and implement updated enforcement procedures; council noted that if a supermajority is present at a later meeting they could consider waiving the three-reading rule to expedite additional items.
