Council affirms annual budget, approves special events permits and renews county mitigation plan

At the Feb. 27 meeting, the Cherokee Village City Council approved several formal actions affecting municipal operations and event scheduling.
Budget resolution: The council passed Resolution 2025-3 to adopt the city’s annual operating budget. Councilmember Martin moved to pass the resolution (which attached the paperwork previously approved in November); Mr. Tatum seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Special-use permits: Council voted to approve three special-use permit requests in a single motion — including the Art Center of North Arkansas (Shakespeare at the Gazebo) and the Highland Elks Lodge annual turkey-shoot event scheduled for March 22, 2025. The grouped motion to pass all three permits was made by Mr. Tatum and seconded by Mr. Martin and carried on a voice vote.
Mitigation plan renewal: The council considered and approved the Sharp County mitigation-plan renewal under the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (a five-year renewal required to maintain eligibility for state and federal disaster assistance). Council members noted the plan had not changed and an abbreviated 130-page version was posted to the city website for review.
Executive session: Council also approved a short executive session to discuss personnel matters; after returning to open session members reported no formal conclusion that required a public vote. The council scheduled a working meeting for Monday, March 17 at 6 p.m. to follow up on outstanding items.
