Council appoints Jason Low to A&P commission after residency and conflict concerns

The Cherokee Village City Council filled two vacancies on the Advertising & Promotions commission at its Feb. 27 meeting after a contested discussion about residency and potential conflicts. Miss Pam and other councilmembers discussed whether Mr. Jason Low, who volunteered to serve, had lived in the city long enough and whether his employment ties to the A&P chair created a conflict of interest.

Mr. Low told the council he has owned property in Cherokee Village since 2017 and visits the city regularly; he outlined more than a decade of event-management experience and said he would keep an open mind about financing and maintaining city parks. After discussion and a roll-call vote, the council approved Mr. Low’s appointment; the council recorded six yes votes and two abstentions.

The council then moved to appoint Mr. James Gilly (identified with Happy Camper Plantation Park) to the second vacancy on the commission; the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. Council members asked staff to provide a list of commission members and their term expiration dates at a future meeting so that membership composition and representation can be reviewed.
