Cherokee Village council accepts treasurer resignation, appoints Kelly Harrison and approves July 4 permits

The mayor read a resignation letter from Treasurer Deborah Wacker saying, "please accept this letter as my formal resignation from my position as Treasurer with the city of Cherokee Village ... my last day of work will be Thursday July 11th 2024." The mayor told the council City Hall will accept resumés and the vacancy will be advertised.
On appointments, Kelly Harrison introduced herself at the microphone as a three-year full-time resident and a sales professional. Council moved, seconded and approved her appointment to the Planning and Zoning Commission by roll-call: Rachel Tatum — yes; Mark Martin — yes; Smith — yes; Jeff Tatum — yes; Roland — yes; Harrison — abstain; Mayor — yes. The mayor said she will add term information to the public record.
The council also approved two special-use permits for July 4: the fireworks display on Thunderbird Lake and a pancake breakfast run by the Cherokee Village Volunteer Firefighters Association. Mr. Martin moved, Mr. Tatum seconded and the permits passed on a voice vote of "all in favor." The mayor and staff discussed logistical preparations for the closures and agreed to canvass nearby neighborhoods with door notices so residents know about parking and traffic disruptions.
During the meeting a council member defended themselves after remarks at a working meeting questioned whether taxes on two nightly rentals were being paid. The council member said the property manager verified payments and invited further inquiry if necessary.
