City staff and council discussed a proposed donation of roughly 88 acres from the Walton Family Foundation during the Jan. 13 meeting and voted to acknowledge a letter of intent while staff continues due diligence.
Josh presented a preliminary map and said the foundation will donate the land, with a deed expected by March 2; 17 acres of the tract must be annexed from the county into Centerton before the city can manage the whole parcel. Staff described potential trail concepts and said grant funding would be sought for design and construction after the property is accepted by the city.
Council members asked about primary access points, nearby road improvements (Christian Lane and Arland Road), and potential conflicts with adjacent residents; staff said there is an existing access gate off Arland Road that would likely be improved for primary use. The council voted to acknowledge the letter of intent; formal deed and annexation steps will follow.
Council and staff emphasized preserving sensitive features on the tract, including identified caverns and potential historic sites, and said any final plan would include archaeological and environmental reviews as needed.
