The Cherokee Village City Council on July 17 voted unanimously to adopt three rewritten ordinances that update how the city licenses businesses, handles unregistered or junked vehicles and regulates garbage and trash disposal.
Council members suspended the requirement that ordinances be read on three different days and took final passage of Ordinance 2025‑01 (repealing 2015‑06 and establishing annual occupational fees and a business permit), Ordinance 2025‑02 (replacing Ordinances 2021‑02 and 2021‑02A to regulate unregistered, wrecked or junked vehicles) and Ordinance 2025‑03 (repealing 2015‑01 and consolidating rules on garbage, abandoned inoperable property and nuisance items). Each ordinance was read by title and approved by roll call vote.
Why it matters: The package replaces several older, overlapping rules and consolidates language to streamline enforcement and bring ordinance language up to date, council members said. The council debated but declined to adopt an emergency clause for the business ordinance, noting an ordinance without an emergency clause takes effect after required public posting.
What happened: Council voted to waive additional readings, read each ordinance by title and then move to final passage. The roll‑call record for each vote listed Harrison, Rachel Tatum, Martin, Jeff Tatum, Low, Ishmail and Roland as voting yes; no no‑votes, abstentions or recusals were recorded.
The council did not take additional implementing motions in this meeting; staff will publish the ordinances per statutory posting requirements and place implementation steps on upcoming agendas as needed.
