Chickasaw County supervisors approve primary canvass and publish nomination list

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on June 9, 2026, unanimously approved the canvass of the June 2 primary election and authorized the county auditor to certify the results to the state, send letters to political party chairs and record the outcome in the county's permanent Election Register.

The action, taken by motion, was moved by Supervisor Breitbach and seconded by Supervisor Carter. A roll-call vote recorded Breitbach, Carter, Cerwinske, Suckow and Chairperson Jacob Hackman as voting "aye," and the motion carried. The board meeting opened at 7:00 a.m. in the boardroom of the Chickasaw County Courthouse in New Hampton; Board Secretary Sheila Shekleton was present.

In the same session the board recorded a Notice of Nomination dated June 9, 2026. The notice lists the Democratic nominees as James G. Ashley for County Board of Supervisors — District 2 and Jason Byrne for County Board of Supervisors — District 5, with "No Candidate" listed for County Treasurer and County Attorney and Shirley Troyna listed for County Recorder. The Republican nominees listed were Scott Cerwinske for County Board of Supervisors — District 2, Travis Suckow for County Board of Supervisors — District 5, Matt Ysbrand for County Treasurer, Gina Fangman for County Recorder and David C. Laudner for County Attorney.

The board approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session by a motion from Supervisor Travis Suckow, seconded by Supervisor Scott Cerwinske, which passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 a.m. after a motion by Cerwinske, seconded by Suckow; the roll call again recorded all ayes.

The approved canvass authorizes the county auditor to carry out the formal certification process with the state and to notify party chairs as required by county procedure. The minutes of the meeting were recorded and filed with the Chickasaw County Auditor's office.
